Thanksgiving in a Bag

Every year people are leaving their Thanksgiving dinner tables earlier and earlier to go out for Black Friday shopping, and people are getting angrier and angrier. “It’s unacceptable that people are leaving halfway through Thanksgiving dinner to go wait in lines and run around snatching deals” they say, and I agree completely. It’s unacceptable to expect us to wait until halfway through dinner to get up and leave, we should be leaving much earlier than that! In fact, why don’t we eliminate the dinner and family time altogether and spend two whole days shopping? Instead of giving thanks for your family and your health, you can give thanks for your new, cheap, flat screen TV and your 60% off Gucci boots.

Everyone knows family time is annoying, so why sit down to a huge meal with these people? I say leave the goopy cranberries behind and sprint to the big sale. If you’re still missing that delicious home cooked meal, there’s an idea for restaurants. Kentucky fried turkey with cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and all other beloved side dishes in little Styrofoam cups to grab from the nearest drive-thru as you speed off to the next store on your list. We need to open our eyes and see that our materialistic American society doesn’t care about spending time with family or eating a home cooked meal anymore. It’s all about being constantly on the go and buying everything in sight.

Compare and Contrast

I'm going to be writing about what the actual differences between Pepsi and Coca Cola are, the companies and the products. I chose this because I have many friends how are completely insane about which drink is better and would rather die than drink the other, and I know other people who get angry and insist that the drinks are exactly the same and its all marketing blah blah blah. I've personally been a Coke fan all my life, though I will drink Pepsi if that is all that is available. Recently I've discovered that I'm starting to like the taste of Pepsi better, and I really wanted to know what actually made the two different. Though I know that this topic seems to show up all over the place, I have an actual reason for choosing it (not that it's easy) and an interest in it.

Classical Music

I watched a TED talk about appreciating classical music. Going into this I already loved and appreciated classical music and I was still moved by the whole talk. He discussed how it's played, about impulses and "one buttock" and "two buttock" piano playing. He was very funny and engaging throughout. He talked about the emotions put into a song and the journey you take with the music.

After talking about chords and comparing a piece's repetition to Shakespeare's Hamlet, he played the piece again and told you to think about someone you love. I thought the piece was very moving and emotional. He talked about his mentality and how he judges his success in life on how many shining eyes he sees looking up at him.

I loved this TED talk and his mentality of success and how he lives his life.
